GENERAL POLICY FOR ASSESSMENT OF LEARNER’S WORK

  • Assessment involves focusing on given assessment standards selected from the policy document by the educator. These standards are made known to the learners prior to an activity, learning experience or project.
  • During this process of learning, the educator observes whether assistance is necessary. In the later case, intervention may take place or the educator may refer the learner for additional support, Parents/guardians are at all times also responsible for ensuring that recommendations made are followed through.
  • Tests and examinations are used as assessment tools. Marks are allocated for these but in no way are marks the only means by which assessment is done. Progression is based on a melding of numerous types of assessment done by the educator on a continuous basis. Peer assessment, self-assessment, group assessment and portfolio assessment also contribute to the evaluation of the learner’s progress.
  • The National Protocol on Assessment will be used as the basis for assessment activities.

ASSESSMENT POLICY

  • If a learner is absent for a test, exam or formal assessment, he/she will receive 0. No rewriting will take place. Learners who present a doctor’s certificate will be given an average of their mark attained. The same exception is applied when a learner produces a letter explaining absence due to religious celebrations. Consent will only be given for the day of celebration, not for any other extended vacation.
  • Individuals will be assessed when doing group work. 0 will be given to those who do not participate. A group’s result may not suffer because of one individual’s absenteeism or non-participation.
  • Projects handed in late will not be accepted for assessment unless a doctor’s certificate is presented.
  • The educator must make the necessary arrangements if he/she is absent on the day assigned for handing in of projects.
  • It is to be noted that learners are now equally responsible for handing in work timeously, completing tasks and following up on work if they are absent.
